FAQ - Defensive Driving School

In the fall of 2024, the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) mailed letters to parents who once had an open dependecy and/or severance case.

Did you receive a letter? Visit the DCS letter page for more information.

How do I sign up for a defensive driving course?

Prior to signing up for a defensive driving course, make sure that you are eligible to attend.  A few things to note:

  • A defensive driving class can only be completed, at least, 7 days BEFORE your court date
  • You CANNOT attend if you have a commercial drivers license (CDL)
  • You can attend a class in person or online (unless ordered by the judge)
  • You can only attend driving school once a year (from the date of your citation)
  • If you were involved in a serious injury accident or fatal accident, you are not eligible

You can check with the defensive driving school that you select to make sure you qualify.
