Do I have to appear on my court date for my civil traffic violation if I am just going to pay the fine?

No.  You can go into the courthouse any day before the date on your ticket to pay or contact the court to see if you can pay over the phone, online, or by mail.  If you do go to court to make a payment, you will have to bring the ticket with you.
