FAQ - Answering a Claim

In the fall of 2024, the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) mailed letters to parents who once had an open dependecy and/or severance case.

Did you receive a letter? Visit the DCS letter page for more information.

When are my 20 days up for filing an answer?

Start counting the 20 days on the day after service was completed, and include all weekends and holidays. If the 20th day lands on a holiday the next day the court is open will be considered the final day for a timely answer. If you do not know the date of service, court personnel may advise you if proof of service was filed with the court.
