| Motion | A motion is a paper filed with the Superior Court, the Court of Appeals, or the Arizona Supreme Court requesting that certain relief be granted. For example, a motion is filed in the Court of Appeals requesting an extension of time to file the Opening Brief. |
| Motion to Set Aside | A request that the court “set aside” an Order so that it will not take effect. |

| Municipal Court | A lower, limited jurisdiction court. |
| MVD | The Arizona State Department of Motor Vehicles. |

| Nolo Contendere | This plea, also known as plea of no contest, means the person charged, the defendant, is not admitting guilt and not denying it. The defendant is saying that they do not wish to contest the charges brought by the state. Upon a plea of no contest, the judicial officer may find the defendant guilty and enter a judgment of guilt. |
| Non-Custodial Parent | The parent that has not been granted legal custody of the children. The parent who is not the primary caretaker of the children. |
| Nonresident decedent | A decedent who was domiciled in another jurisdiction at the time of the death of the decedent. |

| Not Responsible | The term used in civil traffic violations, similar to “not guilty” in criminal cases. The person denies committing the violation or it is determined by the court they did not commit the alleged violation. |

| Notary Public | A person who is legally authorized to administer oaths and verify that someone has completed an affidavit under oath. |
| Notice of Appeal | This is a paper that must be filed in the Superior Court within thirty (30) days after the date of entry of judgment by the Clerk of the Superior Court in order to appeal the judgment to the Court of Appeals. If the Notice of Appeal is not timely filed, the Court of Appeals must dismiss the appeal. |
| Notice of Appearance | A paper filed in court notifying the court and the other people involved, that a person (or their lawyer) is participating in the case. |
